Damansara Uptown Hawkers Centre

DAMANSARA UPTOWN HAWKERS CENTRE

Reminiscing the old days around more than three decades ago of stall hawkering in Damansara brought back many beautiful memories when late Grandpa and Grandma was up and about buzzing away with business involving every family member in the house. Remember the road side hawker stalls at Damansara Utama just along the now Uptown Damansara? The endless order call-outs of "Teh Tarik! Kopi Kaw! Char Kuey Teow! Mi Goreng!" could be heard echoing and as the lights lit up by late evening, a whole new world would be alive from then up until early of dawn. Life certainly was different then.

Around ten years later, the hawker’s there were shifted to a more decent place which is now known as Damansara Uptown Hawkers Centre which has been the main commercial centre and a hub of activity for businesses and residents in the area. A much more pleasant place indeed.

By then the family business was handed down and separated into three different hawkering stalls going by the name of Bintang Sue, Bintang Hendri and Bintang Tony also most popular known as Tony Char Kuey Teow.

Location:
Damansara Uptown Hawkers Centre
Jalan ss 21/39
Damansara Utama
Petaling Jaya

Undoubtedly, Damansara Uptown, located in Selangor’s Petaling Jaya has been a commercial success for its developer See Hoy Chan Sdn Bhd. Popular as mirrored in its almost full occupancy levels, including the hawker centre which has been upgraded with bicycle paths and side walks which has also been improved for disabilities and impairment persons.

In order to make Damansara Uptown more enhanced it was given a facelift for the second phase which make way for several high-rise blocks, comprising serviced residences, office tower and boutique retail centre. As in a gateway to business, leisure and home. It will be known as Uptown 37.

There is high hopes for all the hawkering business doers there to continue their legacy in which they themselves have build around them eventhough under a small scale. With the place upgraded, well to be rest assured it will be a nice place but it will never be the same. Wondering on where will some of the hawkers be scattered to, for some may relocate, some may not afford to relocate and even some might just end up The End for their business.

Life is life. The urge of being in the modernize age, always wanting to adapt to a newer environment by moving on and changing what is old to new. Making life a better place to live in which consists of greener way and healthier way to live in. Come to think of it, our ancestors, lived a long and healthy life too no doubt it wasn’t much in a modern way but a modest way in which is a way of life. Yet, now in the most modernised way, we see more and more shortlived lives due to unaccountable causes. Seldom do we hear old folks move on at the age of over 90, there is, but countable in numbers.

In memoriam, Rest in Peace gramps Johnny Ng and Madam Lee  and also Al Fatihah to uncle Tony Char Kuey Teow.
